Requirements for running TEEAL

Workstation requirements

SubNa is provided on a 500GB external hard drive containing about 400GB of data. The drive is equipped with a USB cable.

The following system requirements are necessary for a typical computer to run the TEEAL program.

Processor

1500 MHz or faster

Memory

1 GB or more

Please note that while TEEAL will run on computers with less than 1 GB of RAM, performance may be compromised.

Operating System

Windows 2000, XP, or Vista

Free hard drive space

4 GB

Misc

DVD reader

Adobe® Reader® 6.0 or higher (provided with TEEAL)

One free USB 2.0 port. With a USB 1.0 port, load times may be slow.

Server requirements

TEEAL is provided on a 500GB external hard drive containing about 400GB of data. The drive is equipped with a USB cable.

The following system requirements are necessary for a typical server to host the TEEAL program.

  • If your server has 500 GB of space or more, you can copy the TEEAL content to your server.
  • If your server has less than 500 GB of space, you can still use your server to host TEEAL over your network. Simply leave the TEEAL external hard drive connected to your server at all times. It will function like an internal hard drive and users on your network can still access the data.
If you do not have a server but still wish to share TEEAL over your network, you can host TEEAL on a regular workstation, and network directly from the hard drive.

Processor

1500 MHz or faster

Memory

1 GB or more

Operating System

Windows Server 2000, 2003, or 2008

Free hard drive space

At least 500 GB (see paragraph above)

Misc

DVD reader

One free USB 2.0 port. With a USB 1.0 port, copy times may be slow.

TEEAL on a network

If you plan to run TEEAL over a local area network, please read this section carefully.

TEEAL arrives at an institution on a 2.5" external hard drive, with ~400 GB of full text, and all the setup files and additional programs (like Adobe Reader setup). TEEAL can be run on either a single computer, or shared over a network.

When you run TEEAL on a network, a server or any single computer on the network can act as the host for the content - but one does not actually install TEEAL on the host. One can either copy all the content from the external drive we provide to the institution's own server (providing they have enough drive space); or they can simply leave the external drive connected to the server or host computer, and simply share the drive that's connected.

One sets up simple sharing of the folder containing the TEEAL content (or the external hard drive connected to the host or server).

Then on each individual workstation on the network (the computers that patrons and other people use), one maps to the hosted folder or drive, and then runs the TEEAL setup. That way each computer with TEEAL will connect to the hosted folder when a user clicks on a link to get the full text of an article.

If you need help determining whether your network can host TEEAL, please email teeal@cornell.edu.
